'Type of player we need': Ince says Manchester United must sign someone like Chelsea star

Paul Ince suggested that Manchester United have to recruit a player with a similar skill set to Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

Speaking on The United Stand, Ince urged his former club to buy an individual built in the same miniature mould as Kante.

Unfortunately for United, there are very few professionals in the sport that can replicate what the France international manages in each game.

A distance runner, with the reactions of a sprinter and the awareness of a surgeon, the 30-year-old has so much quality crammed into such a small space.

He can tackle, he can intercept, he scores goals, he goes forward, he defends; is there anything he can’t do?

Kante’s curse

Unfortunately, staying fit for a prolonged period of time has been Kante’s Achilles heel as of late.

The 2018 World Cup winner is already seven games behind many of his colleagues this season because of injury.

But, on his day, there is no matching the Parisian prince.

“You look at the likes of Kante at Chelsea, he does two- or three men’s work in midfield,” purred Ince over Chelsea’s number seven.

“The ground that he covers is unbelievable. And that’s the type of player we (Manchester United) need.

“We need two of those players, not just one, we need two.”

In need of man like N’Golo

United – or any team in the world for that matter – would benefit from having a handful of Kante’s in their ranks.

Yet, the Red Devils certainly need someone of comparable superiority in that area of the field.

Old Trafford has been crying out for another all-encompassing midfielder to grace its surface for so long.

They aren’t asking for the next Roy Keane or Bryan Robson; they just need a player who can take the game by the scruff of the next.

Many would look to Paul Pogba to provide such authority.

Sadly, Pogba hasn’t proved to be such an asset consistently enough for United.

Keep your hands off Kante, he is ours!
