‘Very exciting’: Sky Sports pundit suggests Chelsea could be set to sign player with ‘pace to burn’

Stephen Warnock is a massive fan of RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, who’s been strongly linked as a Chelsea target in the last few days.

Nkunku, 24, is an attacking talent that’s growing into a superstar with German side Leipzig.

The Frenchman already has eight goals in 12 games this season across all competitions for his side. This follows 35 goals in 52 matches during the previous campaign, too.

The speculation around him now is that he could be set to sign for Chelsea and complete a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku

Well-respected journalist David Ornstein reports that Leipzig’s forward has signed a pre-contract with Chelsea, who have committed to paying more than the release clause in his existing deal. He adds that there’s competition from Premier League clubs, but a deal is pretty much “done and dusted”.

For now, Nkunku can only focus on his football on the pitch while speculation intensifies around him.

The France international is a speedster in blistering form right now, which bodes well for his country going into the winter World Cup in Qatar.

If Chelsea fans do watch any Leipzig games, they’ll see an electric player thriving in central attacking positions.

Warnock wowed by Nkunku

Sky Sports pundit Warnock has given a glowing verdict on the overall ability of Nkunku:

Warnock told Sky Sports: “It fits the model that Chelsea were going after in the summer. When you think of [Carney] Chukwuemeka, Anthony Gordon who they chased as well – those young, up-and-coming players who they want to put into the squad for the future of Chelsea football club.

“He’s a very exciting player. Pace to burn will cause so many problems for defenders in the league. He can play on either flank and can also play through the middle.

“Since he left Paris Saint-Germain and went to Leipzig, his levels have gone through the roof. He’s done extremely well.”

On paper, this looks like a player that’s absolutely tailor-made to be a success in the Premier League with his athleticism and firepower.
