'Wouldn't surprise me': TalkSPORT pundit thinks Tuchel will play 21-year-old Chelsea youngster next season
Danny Murphy is predicting that Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher will force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s team next season at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher, 21, is currently enjoying a great season-long loan spell at London and Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
The box-to-box central midfielder has been playing out of his skin.
He’s now got three goals and two assists in the league already this season, which included key contributions in Palace’s 2-0 away win at Manchester City on the weekend.
First of all, Gallagher set up an opening goal for club teammate Wilfried Zaha. He followed that up late on with a first-time shot that deflected in off the post to help beat defending league champions Man City.
TalkSPORT pundit Murphy thinks that Chelsea boss Tuchel will be aware of the talented Blues loanee and can imagine him breaking into the Blues first team.
“I know he’s on loan so he’s safe for now Palace fans, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we see him in a Chelsea shirt next season,” Murphy told TalkSPORT.
“Tuchel loves that type of player, he’ll be watching him.
“He can score a goal. You’ve got Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic none of them are that young. They’re the three midfielders and none of them can do that.
“Loftus-Cheek plays a little bit, but Gallagher, having the season of his life, if he gets another five, six goals – gets to ten goals in Crystal Palace’s midfield – he goes back to Chelsea full of beans.”
Gallagher star in the making for Chelsea
The way Gallagher is performing in the Premier League means every Blues fan should be extremely excited about his future.
He’s an all-action midfielder that does posses the kind of attacking quality that is lacking in Chelsea’s midfield ranks. In fairness, you can’t complain when there are world-class options like N’Golo Kane and Jorginho at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher could give something extra to Chelsea going forward, though.
If he can keep up this form over the course of the campaign with Palace, he should go into pre-season next summer dreaming big.
BBC pundit Garth Crooks has urged Palace to try sign him permanently, but the Blues should only consider a mammoth transfer fee.
Gilmour must be jealous
For Billy Gilmour, he must looking on jealous at the success fellow Chelsea loanee Gallagher is enjoying.
Gilmour has played senior games for the Blues unlike Gallagher, so before this season you’d say is much further a long with his development.
However, the Scottish central midfielder can’t get into the Norwich XI at the minute. Gilmour just hasn’t found the right fit like Gallagher.
