Angelo Gabriel is now set to start training with Strasbourg on Monday after Chelsea decided to loan the Brazilian wonderkid.

That is according to Simon Johnson of The Athletic and L’Equipe.

So, what are the details involving Angelo Gabriel departing Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea signed the 18-year-old from Santos in a deal worth £14m.

Angelo was expected to be loaned to Strasbourg after Chelsea’s tour of the United States came to an end.

However – according to Gianluca Di Marzio – Mauricio Pochettino wanted the South American to stay, after he delivered a number of impressive performances in the US.

If that was true, it appears Todd Boehly has overruled the Argentine, as Angelo now prepares to join Strasbourg – who are 100% owned by the American.

The aforementioned Johnson believes the teenager will report for training with the Ligue 1 side on Monday, with L’Equipe – one of France’s top news outlets – backing up that report.

Chelsea were sensible with Angelo Gabriel

In our view, Chelsea handed Angelo’s first few weeks at the club very well.

The Blues could have easily sent the Brazilian straight to France.

However – if that happened – Angelo would not have been able to gel with his new Chelsea teammates and begin to integrate himself on the US tour, which may have potentially affected his time at Strasbourg, and also possibly make him more nervous for when he does return to west London in 2024.

In many ways, the talented winger may have felt like an outcast – or a mere commodity – if he was immediately shipped to Patrick Vieira’s side.

Now, though, Pochettino has familiarised Angelo with everybody, which should give the youngster a feeling of security and comfort to showcase his best form while on loan in France.
