£62m star now voted better than Erling Haaland, after claims Chelsea could launch summer bid

Christopher Nkunku has enjoyed quite the season.

RB Leipzig’s newest jewel in their crown sparkled throughout a memorable campaign.

He finished the term with 34 goals and 20 assists across all competitions.

In Europe’s top five leagues, only three players managed to outscore the Frenchman.

Kylian Mbappe (36), Karim Benzema (44) and Robert Lewandowski (50) edged out the Leipzig attacker, with Mbappe and Benzema still able to add to their tallies.

But whilst the three supreme attackers are used to being top of the pile, this is relatively uncharted terrority for the latest hot-shot on the block.

And the Bundesliga have rewarded their bolt from the blue by naming Nkunku the Player of the Year.

Nkunku Player of the Year noticed by Chelsea

The 24-year-old beat the likes of Lewandowski, who claimed the league’s Golden Boot, and Erling Haaland, the man bound for Manchester City.

Not often he will be to claim that accolade, so enjoy it whilst it lasts.

For several clubs across the continent, they will certainly hope Nkunku can maintain his standards, as they consider a move for Germany’s best player.

Chelsea are reportedly part of the interested cohort keeping an eye on Leipzig’s leading man.

There will likely be a significant squad revamp at Stamford Bridge over the summer, with Thomas Tuchel set to lose several key personnel.

In their absence, the Blues boss will need reinforcements, looking to Todd Boehly for his financial backing.

What needs fixing?

Defence is going to be the area that requires most attention, mainly because of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s departure.

However, Chelsea’s strike force may also need looking at, following another pretty poor output from those tasked with supplying the goals.

Romelu Lukaku leads the way with 15, followed by Mason Mount and Kai Havertz on 13.

Meanwhile, Nkunku has been putting them away for fun.

Hence why Leipzig will only accept a ‘crazy offer’ for their number 18 in the ball-park of £62m (Bild).
