Chelsea could be blocking 18-year-old's pathway through reported £20m transfer call - TCC View

Chelsea tend to get it right when academy matters are concerned.

Just look at the players sparkling in the first-team squad who have been raised through Cobham’s school of football.

Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Andreas Christensen, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James and Ruben Loftus-Cheek; all born into the Blues family and are now elevated figures at the club.

Up until a few months ago, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori were feeling the same level of status.

Even some of the rising stars in the development sides have dipped their toes into the senior pool.

Harvey Vale, Xavier Mbuyamba and Jude Soonsup-Bell are just a few of the exciting prospects personally selected by Frank Lampard or Thomas Tuchel to train with the main group.

But there have been recent incidents where Chelsea have not managed their junior section properly.

Tino Livramento’s and Marc Guehi’s exits were probably the most surprising, especially as many fans felt they belonged with the Champions League holders.

Lewis Bate, Dynel Simeu, Myles Peart-Harris and Pierre Ekwah also waved goodbye to Stamford Bridge over the summer, despite their success in the youth set-up.

Now, the Blues might be facing another issue regarding the future of a talented individual.

What’s in store for Colwill?

Levi Colwill is currently finding Huddersfield Town a happy hunting ground, following his loan move to the Championship outfit earlier this year.

He has become a hit with the home fans, thanks to consistently confident performances against his more experienced opponents.

Chelsea supporters have been equally impressed by the 18-year-old’s displays.

They view him as the replacement for Antonio Rudiger, who could well be leaving South West London before too long.

However, the Blues chain of command reportedly have a different plan up their sleeve.

According to CNN Turk, Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai.

CCN Turk claim Szalai will join for €23.4m (£20m) on a six-year deal.

Szalai to show up

The 23-year-old generally plays on the left-side of a back three and is handily left-footed.

He would be an ideal fit to take over the reins from Rudiger, should he set sail next season.

Unfortunately, Szalai’s skill sets are almost a carbon copy of Colwill’s, who also features on the left for Huddersfield.

If Chelsea do strike a deal with Fenerbahce, then they are pretty much closing the door on their teenagers’ short-term career at the club.

Another loan spell is not the worst solution in the world, but how long can that cycle realistically continue?

For Colwill, he may selfishly hope Szalai stays in Turkey.
