Chelsea transfer news: Blues submit offer for 'outstanding' £49m Premier League star
Chelsea have reportedly just submitted a bid to sign Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, the Blues launched a bid this week worth around €55million (£49million) for Mac Allister.
The report explains that Brighton have rejected the offer for their 24-year-old star, who’s had a phenomenal rise in the past few months.
Mac Allister, who’s a key player for Premier League side Brighton, is still riding the wave of winning the World Cup with Argentina during the winter. Incidentally, he partnered Benfica’s 22-year-old midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the Argentine XI, so the pair know each other well.
Chelsea clearly liked what they saw from the World Cup champions because Fernandez is another player strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the January window.
Chelsea have failed with their push to sign Brighton’s all-action midfielder, but will there soon be another offer on the table?
Brighton, who are sixth in the Premier League table, could be chasing down a European spot this year. Therefore, losing their best individuals mid-season would be a crushing blow.
The Seagulls have proven their strategy works of cashing in on their star names and recruiting smartly, but finding a like-for-like replacement for Mac Allister would be a huge ask.
The Chelsea fanbase have been overwhelmed to see so many new faces arrive in the last two transfer windows, with plenty of them exciting youngsters with big potential.
However, it does feel like there’s work to be done in the centre of the park.
The Blues have relied on the same senior midfielders for several years now, which is why bringing in some fresh blood in that area would be great for the squad.
