Rio Ferdinand has claimed he would be surprised if Enzo Fernandez isn’t a big success at Chelsea.

As it stands, Fernandez is still a Benfica player with just a few hours left in the January transfer window.

However, there’s plenty of transfer rumours flying around that suggest the 22-year-old could soon end up at Stamford Bridge.

Sky Sports has claimed that Chelsea are now in Lisbon working on a deal to sign the Argentina international from Benfica. They add the player could undergo a medical out in Portugal, too.

Enzo Fernandez prediction

Rio Ferdinand predicts that Fernandez would thrive in Chelsea colours if his transfer is finalised.

He was super impressed by the South American star at the World Cup, which is no surprise given he was a real gem in midfield for an Argentina side that won the whole tournament.

When discussing Fernandez, Ferdinand told his YouTube channel: “He has got it. I’d be surprised if he comes in and isn’t a success. I think he’s a top player.

“He was the best young player of the tournament at the World Cup. He was integral for [Argentina]. His passing, his composure for a young kid at that level was a joke.

“I think he won’t be fazed coming in… The money is irrelevant when you look at it like that. This kid could be here for the next five or six years.”

If you look at Fernandez’s player profile, everything suggests he can be a big hit in England.

You would expect a serious player given the kind of money being spoken about for the Benfica star, and he’s someone that gives you a bit of everything in the midfield.

It feels like the kind of addition that would completely help rejuvenate Graham Potter’s side in the centre of the park.
