Manchester City have reportedly held talks with Chelsea over potentially signing Reece James.

According to FootballTransfers, City are interested in adding Reece James to their squad and have already been in contact with their Premier League rivals.

Kyle Walker recently signed a contract extension at the Etihad, but the right-back is now 33 years of age, explaining why the Citizens would have James on their shortlist.

However, with the Chelsea man recently being named captain and putting pen to paper on a new long-term deal not too long ago, it would be a shock if he ended up moving to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Chelsea cannot sell Reece James to Manchester City

The Chelsea fanbase would probably never forgive the club’s owners if they allowed James to join City in the near future.

The England international came through the academy, is club captain and easily one of the Blues’ best players.

It would also send out the wrong message. Chelsea are on the decline right now and selling their skipper to the No.1 club in the country would just show that they have no intention of returning to the top again.

Supporters, however, probably do not need to be worried about James leaving Stamford Bridge just yet. As already mentioned, the £250,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender has years to run on his contract. Todd Boehly and Co are not in a position where they even have to contemplate selling him.

James could be the prefect long-term successor to Walker, but Chelsea would have to be crazy to consider letting him join their Premier League rivals.
