'Pep really wants him': Manchester City now set to make offer for £40m star linked with Chelsea, claims Romano
Manchester City are reportedly set to make an opening offer to try sign Brighton’s Marc Cucurella, who’s linked with Chelsea this summer.
Well-respected Fabrizio Romano claims on Twitter that Premier League champions Man City are stepping up their interest in Brighton’s exciting wing-back.
It is understood they’re set to table a bid for the 23-year-old star, which could then lead to advanced talks in the coming days.
In addition, Man City boss Pep Guardiola has singled the Spaniard out as someone he really wants in his squad at the Etihad Stadium.
It’s a slight concern for the Blues to hear that Man City are now underway in their pursuit to sign Cucurella.
It’s been reported this month that Chelsea are interested in Brighton’s £40million-rated full-back, albeit are aware of the competition from Guardiola’s side.
He’s an attack-minded left wing-back that’s completed a superb debut season in English football.
Brighton, who ended up ninth in the Premier League, play some really eye-catching football in possession. For certain, Cucurella’s importance tirelessly running up and down the left flank can’t be overstated.
Who should Marc Cucurella join?
Of course, the bias answer is to advise the Brighton talisman to move to Stamford Bridge.
He’s tailor-made to fit into Thomas Tuchel’s system at a wing-back, but he would face big competition from Ben Chilwell for a starting position.
In contrast, it does look like there may be a bit more of a window open for him to break into the Man City XI as a left-footed option for their defence.
