Report: Chelsea could make fresh approach to sign £150m PL star in very near future, Tuchel’s a big fan
Chelsea could reportedly make a move to try sign West Ham and England midfielder Declan Rice in the near future.
According to Dean Jones for GiveMeSport, Chelsea may be ready to launch a fresh approach in the coming weeks to land the 23-year-old star.
It is understood the Blues want to make a “statement signing” under the new ownership, with West Ham’s talisman fitting that exact profile.
The report states Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of Rice. Also, the player himself would be open of returning to Stamford Bridge after being released by the club as a teenager.
Jones explains a transfer move for Rice is now on the agenda for Chelsea and there could be contact made with West Ham soon.
Chelsea move for Declan Rice
It’s a transfer rumour that never seems to go away, but it sounds like there may be something a little more concrete in this week’s update.
Rice, who West Ham manager David Moyes said back in April would cost at least £150million to sign, certainly falls under the category of a marquee target.
The defensive midfielder’s elevated his game to new heights in recent seasons, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s very best in the centre of the park. He’s a nailed-on starter for Gareth Southgate’s England team, too.
Hammers supporters love him due to his leadership and work rate, as well as his quality both on and off the ball.
Rice’s connection back to Chelsea is something that’s no secret. His close friendship with Blues star Mason Mount is something else that always has supporters fantasising about a potential transfer to the Bridge.
Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly reportedly has a big role to play in transfer negotiations this summer after becoming interim sporting director, so he could make a lot of fans very happy if he launches a full attack to try sign Rice.
