Report: Chelsea edge closer to next exit as PL club 'hold talks' over signing 21-year-old
Newcastle United have reportedly held talks about signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea this summer.
This is according to the Nothern Echo, who claim discussions are underway between Newcastle and the Blues for Gallagher’s signature.
This transfer would initially be on a loan basis as Chelsea do not want to relinquish the 21-year-old completely just yet.
He proved how beneficial a part-time spell away from Stamford Bridge could be for his development when he spent last season with West Bromwich Albion.
Despite Albion’s relegation, the young midfielder performed admirably for his Midland employers.
The England Under-21 international has also enjoyed stints at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.
Chelsea have yet to truly give Gallagher the green light in their senior side, although is currently undergoing pre-season training with Thomas Tuchel’s team.
There is interest from across the Premier League for his services.
Alongside Newcastle, Crystal Palace are also said to be intrigued by the Blues academy product.
Palace have already snapped Marc Guehi from Chelsea’s grasp for £18m (Guardian).
Billy Gilmour is another from the Cobham construction line to have sealed a move ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Norwich City landed the mini-Scotsman on a season-long loan.
Shipping on Gallagher would be the Blues eighth outgoing in this window, without any new faces coming the other way.
