Report: Chelsea make their move to sign £40m star who Cesc Fabregas called 'fantastic' back in 2017

Chelsea have reportedly entered talks to try sign Manchester City defender Nathan Ake this summer.

The Telegraph claims the Blues have made their move to try recruit the 27-year-old star, along with his teammate Raheem Sterling.

It is understood Thomas Tuchel’s side are in discussions with Man City about Ake, who’s now moved up the pecking order in the club’s summer transfer window targets.

The report explains the Holland international is open to the idea of returning to Stamford Bridge after leaving West London back in 2017.

Ake, who’s reportedly someone Chelsea boss Tuchel wanted during his days in charge at Borussia Dortmund, could now get a chance to return to the Bridge.

The £40million centre-back has won two Premier League titles during two seasons at the Etihad Stadium, but can’t seem to nail down a permanent spot in Pep Guardiola’s XI.

Chelsea entered Nathan Ake talks

The Blues appear to have ramped up interest in Ake by initiating transfer talks.

He’s a left-footed centre-back that looks tailor-made to slot into Chelsea’s back three on the left, which is a position that’s now vacant following Antonio Rudiger’s summer exit to join Real Madrid.

Described as “fantastic” by ex-Blues favourite Cesc Fabregas in 2017, Ake knows all about Chelsea after spending seven years on the club’s books. He played 17 first-team games for the club, too.

The Dutchman impressed last season for Premier League champions Man City by stepping into the XI very effectively when needed, whether that be as a centre-back or covering at left-back. He scored three goals in 27 games across all competitions last season.

It’s getting to a stage where Chelsea supporters are desperate to see a new defender signed to reinforce a vulnerable area of the squad.
