Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher reportedly completed a medical at Crystal Palace on Sunday ahead of a potential season-long loan move.
The 20-year-old made an appearance in the second half of Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Brighton on Saturday but had a medical with Palace the following day, according to a report from the Guardian.
This would be a step-up for the former Chelsea academy player of the season, having spent the 2019/20 season on two different loan spells in the Championship at Charlton and Swansea City.
Gallagher had an impressive season, bagging six goals and eight assists for both clubs, and helped Swansea reached the play-off despite the loss in the semifinal against Brentford.
A loan spell in the Premier League would help Gallagher’s development particularly if he were to return to Chelsea and compete for a spot under Frank Lampard.
The Chelsea manager is not exactly short of centre or attacking midfield options at the moment, with Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all capable of playing as either No. 8 or No. 10.
Chelsea are also reportedly close to bringing in Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz (Sky Sports) who is also naturally a centre attacking midfielder.
At Crystal Palace, Gallagher would be a fresh, younger midfield option for manager Roy Hodgson who mostly relied on experienced players such as James McArthur and Cheikhou Kouyate last season.
