Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs interested in Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic but Los Blancos will only allow him to leave on a loan deal.
The 22-year-old has had an underwhelming season at the Santiago Bernabeu so far. Jovic has only netted two goals in just four starts in La Liga, with Karim Benzema and even Mariano ahead of him in the pecking order.
It is such a sharp decline to his record of 27 goals in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, which earned him the £59.5million summer move in the first place (the Guardian).
A summer departure would make sense for the Serbian international. However, according to Spanish publication Diario Madridista, Real still consider the striker a valuable prospect and will only allow him to leave on a temporary deal.
The report said Los Blancos are willing to offload Jovic to give him opportunities to regain his form and mentioned Chelsea as one of the parties interested in the striker.
Chelsea will likely need additional firepower up front with Olivier Giroud, whose contract expires this summer, reportedly rejecting the club’s initial extension offer.
Frank Lampard still has Michy Batshuayi at his disposal but, just like Jovic, the 26-year-old has not reached the expected level and is pretty much the third-choice striker.
AC Milan are also expected to reignite their interest, after missing out on signing Jovic last summer.
