Chelsea manager Frank Lampard reportedly plans to make Thiago Silva his new captain ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta as the centre-back reportedly closes in on joining the Blues.

According to a report from Sky Sports, the 35-year-old is due to undergo a Chelsea medical tomorrow, August 28, after an agreement between him and the club on a potential free transfer.

Silva is a well-known leader who captained Paris Saint-Germain to this season’s Champions League final although they fell short of European glory.

And according to a report from Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, despite ending his stint at Parc des Princes, Silva could continue his captaincy status at Stamford Bridge.

The report claimed that Chelsea boss Lampard could ask Silva to wear the armband for the 2020/21 season, taking it from Azpilicueta.

This, unsurprisingly, has sparked some debate among some Chelsea fans.

Azpilicueta is a beloved figured among the fans and some of these fans are against giving the armband to a potential newcomer ahead of the Spain international who has been at the club since 2012.

While those in support of the idea of giving Silva the captaincy if he were to join, believe the Brazil international would be a more vocal leader on the pitch.
