‘Would love him’: Some fans want to sign £150k-a-week Chelsea player their club are reportedly targeting

Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing a Chelsea player – and some fans of the La Liga club have given a big thumbs up on their transfer target.

According to ESPN, Spanish giants Barcelona are monitoring Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract situation at Stamford Bridge.

It is explained that Chelsea are in discussions with their £150,000-a-week defender about extending his deal, which is due to expire at the end of this season.

The report states Barcelona are alerted to the 32-year-old’s situation, as they are scouting for out-of-contract players because of their weak financial situation. In addition, Barcelona’s new manager Xavi is “keen” on bringing him to Camp Nou due to his versatility.

Azpilicueta, who’s made 400-plus appearances for Chelsea since he joined in 2012, is the club captain with so much valuable experience. However, as it stands, he’ll be leaving next summer unless there is a breakthrough in his contract talks.

Barcelona fans admire Chelsea skipper Azpilicueta

A selection of Barca supporters on social media believe Azpilicueta could be a really shrewd addition for them if they can snap him up on a free transfer next summer.

The 36-time capped Spain international is exactly the kind of player that could inject leadership and experience to a young dressing room.

Chelsea need to keep the versatile defender at all costs, though.

He’s so effective as a centre-half in the back-three implemented by Blues manager Thomas Tuchel. Also, he’s comfortable moving across to the wing-back role.

The reliable defender is one brilliant Chelsea player that doesn’t always get enough credit for his performances. BBC pundit Garth Crooks did rave about him earlier in the season, though.

Here are some Barcelona fans discussing the Azpilicueta speculation:
