Clearly second choice behind Marcos Alonso, Emerson has been forced to settle for appearances in cup competitions.

The Italian’s put in strong displays in the Europa League and the EFL Cup when given the opportunity.

He scored the equaliser away against Liverpool in the EFL Cup and last night provided the crucial assist for Olivier Giroud’s winner against BATE Borisov.

It is evident to see that under Maurizio Sarri, Emerson has improved with coaching and is looking like the player they signed from Roma.

Chelsea are competing on four fronts this season, so rotating their team will be vital to remain competitive.

Although Alonso had a lightning quick start to the season, the Spaniard’s impact has been waning as of late.

And even though Alonso is popular among fans, Emerson’s displays could warrant a start in the league soon.
