Chelsea’s Travis Akomeah has been named among the top 20 best young prospects at Premier League clubs.
Akomeah, who only turned 16 in June, is a teenage defender on the books at Stamford Bridge.
The London-born centre-back is currently making his way through Chelsea’s youth ranks. He’s started three of the four games for Chelsea’s under-18s side in their Premier League season this term.
Also, the defender has represented England’s Young Lions at under-16 level.

Chelsea’s Travis Akomeah
Chelsea’s rising talent has been ranked as one of the best first-year scholars playing in England.
The Guardian has picked out the best youngster at each Premier League club in the first-year scholar age band, which are players born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006
Described as “comfortable playing out from the back” in the Guardian’s piece, Akomeah is the selection for Chelsea.
He only joined the Blues earlier this year in January after leaving Watford and moving across London.
The Guardian picked out Tino Livramento in the Chelsea ranks during 2019, who’s since been a massive success in Southampton’s first team after leaving Stamford Bridge. Also, well recognised player Callum Hudson-Odoi was named in the class of 2017.
The likes of Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho have been made these lists in the past, so it’ll be interesting to look back in years to come at how many of the latest crop reach the top.

There’s a clear emphasis under the new Chelsea ownership on youth, which is evident when you see the amount of money they’ve already spent bringing teenagers to the Bridge over the summer.
Therefore, those players currently in the youth system should be looking upwards with real enthusiasm.
Also, Chelsea’s new head coach, Graham Potter, does have a track record of bringing through and developing youngsters.
