If there is one player in the Chelsea academy creating the most excitement right now, it has to be Shumaira Mheuka. The 17-year-old forward continued his remarkable individual season this weekend with yet another goal.
Chelsea’s Under-21s side had made a perfect start to this campaign in the Premier League 2, winning three out of three. However, Calum McFarlane’s young team suffered their first league defeat of the campaign on Saturday afternoon at Kingsmeadow.
The Blues U21s were beaten 4-2 at home to Ipswich’s U21s in the Premier League 2 fixture.
Hopefully, the Chelsea academy can continue to provide future stars for the first team. It is worth remembering current senior players such as Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah came through at Cobham.
The positive news is that Blues co-owner Todd Boehly is a huge advocate of Chelsea’s academy.

Shumaira Mheuka scores again in Chelsea loss
Even though Chelsea’s U21s suffered a defeat this afternoon against Ipswich, Shumaira Mheuka picked up his customary goal. The teenage striker levelled the game at one stage to make it 1-1 before the visitors ended up claiming three points.
Remarkably, Mheuka has now scored seven goals in six games across all competitions this season for the Blues U21s.
In addition, he netted five times in three appearances for England’s U17s earlier this month across the international break.
Back in February, Rio Ferdinand shared Mheuka used to be a central defender earlier in his career. Well, he’s now firmly developed into one of the most exciting young strikers in academy football right now.

Shumaira Mheuka due another chance with Chelsea first team
Even though he was on the losing team, Mheuka stood out again as a positive for Chelsea’s youngsters.
The up-and-coming forward made five senior appearances last season under Enzo Maresca. Hopefully, he’s in line for another opportunity with the first-team group.
Chelsea travel to League One club Lincoln City next week for a Carabao Cup tie. On paper, it feels like the perfect opportunity for Maresca to rotate the squad and promote some youngsters.

Mheuka is the obvious candidate to play for Maresca’s side in attack, especially because Marc Guiu is cup-tied.
