The form of Chelsea prospect Chizaram Ezenwata in the academy this season should be turning heads.
If you look across the Blues academy, there are plenty of talented youngsters impressing, both for the Under-21 and Under-18 teams.
Ezenwata, who’s mainly played for the U18s so far this season, has been in devastating form. It continued this weekend in the Premier League Cup, too.
Even though the 17-year-old striker hasn’t made his first-team debut yet, he has rubbed shoulders with Enzo Maresca’s main group. Back in March 2025, Ezenwata was pictured training with Chelsea’s senior squad prior to a Premier League match.

Chizaram Ezenwata has eight goals in eight games after weekend brace
On Saturday, Chelsea’s U18s suffered a 3-2 defeat against Manchester City U18s in the Premier League Cup.
Despite ending up on the losing team, Ezenwata made yet another statement this season. The teenage centre-forward scored two goals against Man City, including a cheeky Panenka penalty kick.
It is now eight goals in eight matches across all competitions this campaign for Ezenwata across various Chelsea age groups.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals |
| U18 Premier League | 5 | 6 |
| EFL Trophy | 2 | 0 |
| U18 Premier League Cup | 1 | 2 |
Ezenwata signed as a first-year scholar at Chelsea ahead of the 2025/26 season, which he’s started excellently. Incidentally, he scored two goals in two games for England’s U17s during the September international break as well.
The young frontman has been on an upward trajectory since he joined from Charlton Athletic as an U15.
He’s had minutes in Chelsea’s U21s team, including two appearances in the EFL trophy, but that is the next step in his development before dreaming of a senior breakthrough.

The natural successor for Shumaira Mheuka
At the moment, Shumaira Mheuka, 17, is the star centre-forward for Chelsea’s U21s.
The young attacker has 10 goals in eight games for the Blues academy so far this campaign. It is why he fully deserved his cameo off the bench for the first team last month in their Carabao Cup victory against Lincoln City.
Mheuka still has plenty of time on his side to develop, but we would like to think he’s ready for senior football in the near future, whether that’s at Chelsea or out on his first loan.
It is reassuring to see that Ezenwata is firing on all cylinders for the U18s, waiting for his promotion.
