Fikayo Tomori and Jake Clarke-Salter could both start for England Under-21's tonight which should excite Chelsea fans
Whilst Chelsea’s youngsters bring a lot of optimism with them, often they fail to live up to their potential.
But something feels different with the current crop of young players coming through the academy at the moment.
Players like Ethan Ampadu, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and Reece James have Chelsea fans excited.
However, this evening’s England Under-21’s match against Andorra could see two future Chelsea centre-backs play.
Jake Clarke-Salter and Fikayo Tomori both left Chelsea on loan in an attempt to secure regular first-team football.
Clarke-Salter is at Vitesse whilst Tomori is playing under Frank Lampard at Derby County.
Clarke-Salter is having an excellent time in Holland, and has been named in the Eredivisie’s team of the week on more than one occasion.
His performances have even resulted in rumours linking him with a move to German giants Borussia Dortmund.
On the other hand, Tomori had a slower start to the season.
Originally not Lampard’s first choice centre-back, Tomori had to bide his time to play.
But after starting his first game for Derby, Tomori hasn’t let go of that position.
The 20 year-old is now a regular fixture for Lampard, and is learning under the experienced Richard Keogh.
Both Chelsea loanee’s have played excellently for their clubs, and Under-21’s boss Aidy Boothroyd could decide to play them together as they play Andorra tonight.
And with the defensive frailties at Chelsea – and Andreas Christensen looking on the way out – these two could be involved in Chelsea’s first-team in no time.
Therefore, Chelsea fans should be tuning in to watch two of their potential future defenders play on the international stage.
