If Callum Hudson-Odoi has been left with any spare time during the international break, perhaps he’s read a Chelsea transfer rumour that secretly excites him.

Sky Sports, as relayed by The Chelsea Chronicle, reports that the Blues may consider loaning out their attacker Hakim Ziyech in the January transfer window.

Ziyech, 28, has looked far from his best during his 10 appearances for the club so far this season. The left-footed winger has received criticism at various parts of the campaign for his performances in the last few months.

He’s currently battling it out for one of the the two attacking positions behind a central figure, which means he’s in direct competition with the likes of Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Of course, Hudson-Odoi will naturally want his Chelsea teammates to succeed to help bring trophies to Stamford Bridge. However, a tiny part of him must be secretly buzzing about the notion of the Ziyech rumour opening the door for him.

Hudson-Odoi’s Chelsea position about to strengthen?

For Hudson-Odoi, he’s in that bunch of quality Chelsea players trying to nail down a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s preferred starting line-up.

The 21-year-old quick attacker was in the kind of form before the international break that sent a message to the manager. He needs to continue that momentum when domestic football resumes at the weekend, though.

The Englishman would be in a stronger position if a teammate like Ziyech exited on loan for the second half of the season. Despite the fact they prefer to play on opposite flanks, it would be one less rival for what is realistically two creative positions.
