Many fans continue to tout Ola Aina as a right back who is ready to play for Chelsea. His rapid progress at Torino is showing they may be right.
The 22-year-old made several starts for Chelsea during Antonio Conte’s time in charge. He looked promising but Cesar Azpilicueta, Victor Moses and Davide Zappacosta were given many more chances.
Aina had a successful loan spell at Hull City in 2017. The London born full-back then moved on loan to Torino in Serie A last summer.
He has impressed so much that the Italian club want to make a $10 million offer to Chelsea to acquire his services on a permanent basis. He has also burst into the Nigerian national team thanks to his great recent form.
Torino have the option to exercise the $10 million clause if the wish to. They are clearly sufficiently impressed by him that they will do so.
Chelsea should take note of this and consider calling him back go the club. The Blues are in need of an upgrade in the full back position. Cesar Azpilicueta is clearly uncomfortable playing Maurizio Sarri’s style of football.
As unlikely as it is, Chelsea should bring Aina back to the club to seriously compete for a first team slot. He has the pace and the technical ability to be a real success for Sarri’s Chelsea.
