Chelsea travel to Southampton on Sunday afternoon for a Premier League clash and know that a victory will at least temporarily take them to the top of the able.

All eyes will be on who manager Maurizio Sarri elects to start in attack, as Alvaro Morata did score on Thursday night against MOL Vidi in the Europa League.

But France international Olivier Giroud is currently the first-choice striker at Stamford Bridge and may once again get the nod to lead the line.

Giroud may have three assists from his opening seven Chelsea games this season, but is still waiting to chalk up his first goal.

The 32-year-old has shown he is a brilliant target man that can bring his teammates into play, with a special bond forming between him and in-form Belgian Eden Hazard.

But Giroud needs to end his goal duck quickly if he wants to continue starting and upcoming opponents Southampton may be coming for him at the perfect time.

He has a brilliant record of scoring five goals in his last four appearances against them during his time with the Blues and former club Arsenal.

The 6ft 3 giant forward scored earlier in the year against the Saints in the FA Cup semi-final, while he also managed two on his last trip to St Mary’s.

Chelsea fans need to start seeing more from Giroud – who earns £120,000-a-week, according to spotrac.com – and Southampton could be the perfect opponent for him to rediscover his goalscoring touch.
