Chelsea cannot catch a break right now when it comes to injuries, but it is something that could end up working in Conor Gallagher’s favour.
Summer signing Romeo Lavia is the latest player at Stamford Bridge to pick up an injury, with The Guardian reporting that the midfielder has an ankle problem right now.
It remains to be seen how long Lavia is out for, as the same outlet states that Chelsea are still waiting for the results of a scan that the Belgian has had on his foot. But if he is sidelined for a while, it could present Conor Gallagher with a huge opportunity.

At one stage during the summer, it looked like the 23-year-old’s Chelsea career was over. The Blues bought both Lavia and Moises Caicedo, while reports claimed that his employers were willing to sell him after their shopping spree in the last two transfer windows.
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea’s stance was that they would consider suitable offers for Gallagher.
In the end, though, the £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) England international obviously remained at Stamford Bridge and could now have the chance to cement his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

Despite all of the speculation surrounding his future and the arrivals of Caicedo and Lavia, Gallagher has started all four of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season.
He is clearly someone Pochettino likes and is willing to give an opportunity to and with Lavia joining Reece James and Christopher Nkunku on the treatment table, more could be coming his way.
If Gallagher plays well, perhaps he could end up keeping his spot in the team.
