Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen should be thrilled to hear his manager Maurizio Sarri rave about him on Wednesday night.
The Blues recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge over Brighton on Wednesday and there were a number of strong performances.
Olivier Giroud, Eden Hazard and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all scored to help claim three points, while Callum Hudson-Odoi was finally awarded his first Premier League start and managed an assist.
Sarri was keen to single out Christensen post-match despite much attention falling on the impressive English pair of Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi.
“I have to say another thing. We are talking about Callum and Ruben, but I was impressed by the performance of Christensen,” Sarri said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“I want to speak also about him. In the last period Christensen has played five or six matches really very well.”
Sarri’s comments should be music to the ears of Christensen, who may feel that his luck is starting to turn once again in West London.
After play an important first-team role last season, the 22-year-old has struggled a lot more since the change of manager in the summer.
The centre-back made just his 20th appearance of the season in all competitions against Brighton, with David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger the preferred pair in the heart of defence.
Christensen has been impressive in the Europa League run to the quarter-finals and has now played in three of the last eight league matches.
It seems like the Denmark international is winning over his manager and he’s showing he can be a calming figure at the back that is strong on the ball too.
