Chelsea fans critical of Gonzalo Higuain after losing to Manchester United

Gonzalo Higuain completed 90 minutes in the defeat to Manchester United on Monday night – and many of the Chelsea fans on Twitter were critical of the striker.

Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba scored for the visitors, as Maurizio Sarri’s team lost their fifth game in the last 10 games across all competitions.

Chelsea have had a torrid 2019 so far and now need to try lift themselves before a Europa League second leg with Malmo, while they face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend too.

Some Chelsea fans on social media singled out Higuain for his display and feel he didn’t offered enough.

The centre-forward joined in January on loan and he’s scored two goals in five appearances for Chelsea, but they were both against Huddersfield Town.

He was left fairly isolated for much of the match against Manchester United and was unable to add to his goal tally.

The 31-year-old did have a header fly wide and he showed some intelligent movement, but it just wasn’t his night and he’s hardly hit the ground running in English football.

Here are some of the Chelsea fans ripping into Higuain:

Dom is a Chelsea supporter who has worked in online publishing for more than six years. Graduated from Staffordshire University in 2016, he now writes exclusively for The Chelsea Chronicle covering news, analysis and match coverage. He enjoys the dream position of writing about his boyhood club, which seems to be involved in more drama every single day than an episode of The Bill. Aside from his love for Chelsea, he supports and follows the England cricket team. He also fancies himself as the Sunday League version of Michael Essien.
