Fikayo Tomori suffered defeat with England’s Under-21s side on Friday – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter ripped into their defender for his performance on the international stage.

Aidy Boothroyd’s side were beaten 4-2 by Romania in a crazy match that saw all six goals scored in the final 15 minutes of play.

There was a catalogue of errors from England as a defensive unit, with goalkeeper Dean Henderson allowing a shot underneath him at one stage.

Tomori, 21, was also involved in one of Romania’s goals by failing to clear a long kick from the goalkeeper effectively and the opposition pounced on that to score.

The centre-back has not enjoyed the best of tournaments individually, but he’s highly-rated at Stamford Bridge and come through the academy.

He spent last campaign with Frank Lampard at Derby County and was a colossus for them in defence, which is why some feel he could return and compete for the first team next season with the Blues.

A selection of Chelsea fans voiced their concern about Tomori after his international error and some are convinced he’s not good enough to cut it at Stamford Bridge next year.

He’s a powerful defender with great strength and also lightning pace, but it would be a colossal step up if he was drafted into the senior squad next season.

Here are some Chelsea fans commenting on Tomori:
