Chelsea fans hail Fikayo Tomori performance against Valencia

Chelsea slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Valencia on Tuesday night – but some of the club’s supporters on Twitter did pick out defender Fikayo Tomori for special praise following his display.

Frank Lampard’s side now have plenty of work to do in the group to qualify and it was a reminded of how difficult European nights can be.

Chelsea lacked a cutting edge in the final third for most of the night and struggled to penetrate Valencia, while the early injury to Mason Mount didn’t help with that.

Rodrigo scored the winner on 74 minutes when he broke beyond the defence from a free-kick and tucked in a volley.

There was massive frustration for the hosts though, as substitute Ross Barkley missed a penalty soon after and blew the chance to take a point from the fixture.

Chelsea will need to improve ahead of the Premier League game with Liverpool on the weekend, but there were still a few positive during a frustrating game.

A selection of supporters on social media picked out Tomori as a shining light and he once again impressed in defence.

After catching the eye with Lampard on loan at Derby County last season, it was unclear on whether he could make the jump up to the senior group at Stamford Bridge.

But the 21-year-old proved his quality against Valencia with his range of passing, while his rapid pace helped him out in defensive situations.

Here are some Blues fans raving about Tomori’s latest display:
