Chelsea fans hail Jorginho as potential future captain

Jorginho has spoken about the Chelsea group coming together under Frank Lampard and also himself adapting to a new role – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have shown him huge love.

The 27-year-old was Maurizio Sarri’s marquee signing last summer and played in the deep-lying midfield role throughout the whole of last season.

He’s been part of a 4-2-3-1 system in pre-season under new head coach Frank Lampard and often played as one of the two next two Mateo Kovacic.

“It’s new for me [the system] and it will take a little bit of time but I like it and we are working well. I have more space to create and I’m more free so I can do many things with my creativity,” he said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“Sarri was my manager and we worked together for four years but now is another chapter.

“He has left and I am staying here at Chelsea. I’m very happy in London, I have a long contract and I hope to be here for a long time.”

Jorginho has certainly turned the corner to grow into a key player at Stamford Bridge, after a rough start where he received a wave of criticism from fans.

Some Blues supporters now have responded to his latest comments by stressing how important he is and several also branded him future captain material.

The Italy international has shown he’s got an exceptional range of passing and he’s also growing into a fresh role under Lampard, where the work-rate demanded of him has been increased.

He’s definitely beginning to win over his doubters and looks set to start the season in the best XI.

Jorginho will continue to win over fans if he grows during the new Lampard reign and his importance is starting to be realised.

The central midfielder proved last year he’s a real leader on the pitch and the thought of him becoming a future captain is an intriguing one, but for now he has senior teammates such as Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz.
