Ross Barkley caught the eye for Chelsea in the pre-season defeat to Japanese outfit Kawasaki Frontale on Friday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter rave about his performance.

The Blues suffered their first defeat under new head coach Frank Lampard, as they slipped to a 1-0 loss in a friendly fixture.

Leandro Damiao scored a late winner with a header at the back-post, but it was once again a game where Lampard used most of his squad during the 90 minutes to take a look at them.

Barkley entered the action at half-time and was a bright note during the second period.

The 25-year-old put through a number of excellent passes into the final third, which teammates Mason Mount and Kenedy couldn’t quite finish off.

He also showed some positive moments driving up the field in possession and demonstrated the kind of dribbling that he frequently displayed at former club Everton.

The England international was steady for the Blues last season, but has hardly hit top gear year at Stamford Bridge.

Barkley once again looked the part in a pre-season game on Friday and it will be intriguing to see if he can continue impressing under Lampard.
