Michy Batshuayi started for Chelsea in a pre-season game against Bohemians on Wednesday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter were pleased by the quality of his performance.

New head coach Frank Lampard named two different XI’s for his first match in charge and they kicked of pre-season with a 1-1 draw in Ireland.

Batshuayi was involved in the first-half team and he made an impact with the only goal of the game for the Blues.

The Belgium international reacted first in the penalty area to a deflect shot and fired in a close-range effort into the roof of the net.

He’s back at Stamford Bridge after loan spells at Valencia and Crystal Palace last season, where he scored nine times in 36 games across the two spells.

Chelsea are in desperate need of more options in attack for the new campaign and the centre-forward should be eyeing a spot in the starting XI.

Batshuayi looked sharp for a first game of pre-season and is definitely a clinical goalscorer around the penalty area.

His main competitor for the centre-forward spot at Chelsea will be Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham, but he should be confident of outscoring both if he gets a chance.

He’s someone that likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender and most importantly is a poacher.

Lampard is likely to take a look at his whole squad during the next few weeks and it’s an opportunity for Batshuayi to show he’s capable of leading the line next season.
