Mason Mount got 45 minutes under his belt in pre-season during the victory against Irish side St Patrick’s – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter hailed him for his performance.

The Blues recorded a convincing 4-0 win in the friendly and will now jet out to Japan to continue their summer games.

Frank Lampard named two different XIs in each half, with Mount and defender Emerson Palmieri scored in the first period.

Centre-forward Olivier Giroud scored twice during the second-half and there were some eye-catching displays.

Mount got his first minutes of pre-season in the first-half and he scored with a lovely deft finish after bursting from midfield into attack.

He is an attacking midfielder that usually plays in the number 10 role and he impressed in part of a four-man midfield diamond that Lampard deployed.

The 20-year-old slotted in nicely alongside Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Ross Barkley to give the team a real control in the centre of the park.

Mount thrived out on loan last season at Derby County with Lampard and will be hoping to repeat that, but this time in the Chelsea first-team.

The English playmaker looks ready to make his impression on the senior team at Stamford Bridge after years of hype and he’s now developed into the real deal.

With Ruben Loftus-Cheek absent at the start of the season through injury, it looks like a perfect chance for Mount to get some minutes under his belt and leave his mark.
