Chelsea defender Reece James played for England’s Under-20s side on Tuesday – and some of the club’s supporters were impressed by his performance on the international stage.

The Young Lions were beaten 3-2 by Portugal, which means they won’t be progressing through the group stages of the Toulon Tournament.

Paul Simpson’s side have lost both opening group games and have one just match left before their tournament ends for them, which means they won’t be winning it for a fourth year in succession.

James got a full 90 minutes under his belt at centre-back and was one of the standout performers.

The 19-year-old is a right-back by trade that has shown his quality out on loan at Wigan Athletic in the Championship this season, but is a versatile ace that can play in the heart of defence or even midfield.

He’s extremely assured in possession and a selection of Blues fans on social media praised him for his international performance.

James will hope that next year can be his senior breakthrough at Stamford Bridge and it seems like there is room for him to compete at right-back with captain Cesar Azpilicueta in the first team.

The full-back has immense potential and his reputation is continuing to build.
