Chelsea fans rip into ‘shocking’ Marcos Alonso after Leicester defeat

Chelsea were beaten 1-0 at home to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon and it was a considerable setback in the Premier League.

The Blues are now only above fifth-placed Arsenal on goal difference after they were on the wrong end of an upset at Stamford Bridge.

Jamie Vardy’s second-half goal was enough for visitors Leicester to grab three points, as he latched onto a James Maddison pass in the penalty area before firing in.

Maurizio Sarri’s side did have their chances in front of goal and saw both Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso hit the woodwork with shots.

Some Chelsea fans on Twitter vented their anger after a third league defeat of the season and singled out defender Alonso for criticism.

The 27-year-old left-back did miss a huge chance to equalise in the closing moments, while he was also given a tough match by Leicester winger Marc Albrighton.

Spaniard Alonso is an ever-present in the Blues XI at left-back, but may have teammate Emerson Palmieri pushing him for his position if supporters get their way.

Here are some of the Chelsea fan tweets on Alonso’s latest performance:
