Chelsea fans rip into ‘useless’ Alvaro Morata after Manchester United draw

Chelsea earned a dramatic 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United on Saturday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter singled out centre-forward Alvaro Morata for criticism following his performance.

The Blues were saved by an injury-time equaliser from Ross Barkley at Stamford Bridge, as his goal preserved Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the Premier League and temporarily moved them to the top of the table.

Antonio Rudiger had put Maurizio Sarri’s side in front in the first-half with a powerful header, but they conceded twice to Anthony Martial in the second period.

There will be huge positives to take from a late comeback against a top-six rival, but also plenty for the manger to take away and work on.

Morata got the nod ahead of Olivier Giroud in the starting XI at the weekend and he struggled to show his quality, before eventually being substituted off.

The 25-year-old has three goals in 12 games across all competitions this season and is struggling to fill the role as a prolific striker for the Blues.

He struggled a lot to hold the ball up against Man United’s centre-backs, while he lacked the quality and composure in front of goal to make a serious difference.

A selection of Chelsea fans on social media were quick to rip into the Spain international after he his performance.

Here is some of the tweets on Morata’s performance:
