Chelsea are making history right now, but for all the wrong reasons.
Mauricio Pochettino‘s side lost again last night, falling to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
It was their sixth loss of the campaign, which is actually the same amount as their recent opponents. However, it was quite a significant one, which Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella highlighted on X after the game.
Following that defeat to Erik ten Hag’s team, Chelsea have now lost more Premier League matches in 2023 (17) than they did in 2022 and 2021 combined. It is a truly abysmal record.
Chelsea take on Everton at Goodison Park next, and it really would not be a surprise to see them lose that game as well. The Blues’ record there of late does not make for good reading.

Chelsea should never have sacked Thomas Tuchel
You cannot help but feel that Chelsea would be in a much better position under Thomas Tuchel and would not have picked up as many loses if he had remained at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues did not start last season well under the German, but it was so early in the campaign.
During his time at the club overall, Chelsea were such a solid outfit. Rarely were they battered during a game in their 3-4-3 shape.
It has been a much different story since his departure, though. Yesterday, for example, Pochettino’s side conceded 28 shots, according to BBC Sport. With a stat like that, it is easy to see why this team loses so many games.
What’s done is done now. Pochettino is still a good coach and hopefully he can turn things around. But fans have every right to be angry with Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital after some of the shocking decisions they have made.
