Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira, which seems bizarre considering his ability.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Blues and Arsenal are both eyeing the 22-year-old Brazil international ahead of the New Year.

It’s understood that Manchester United may opt to offload Pereira for a sum in January, as his current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season.

Chelsea fans should be slightly concerned by the lack of ambition in lining up the South American and the club need to be aiming for a higher calibre of player if they want to win silverware.

Pereira is a versatile midfielder that showed on loan with Valencia he can play in a more advanced role, but can also be deployed deeper in the centre due to his quality on the ball.

There is a possibility of snapping him up on a bargain deal, but it seems very unlikely he could cut the grade at Stamford Bridge and he would be better off joining a mid-table club.

Pereira has made just five first-team appearances for Manchester United this season and it’s hard to picturing him making the difference for the Blues.

Maurizio Sarri already has a midfield headache where too many players are battling for starting positions and the Manchester United outcast is unlikely to be a suitable solution.
