Chelsea must not hang around this summer when it comes to replacing N’Golo Kante.

Therefore, we think the club needs to go and sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo right now!

It looks like 32-year-old midfielder N’Golo Kante, who’s had seven glorious years at Stamford Bridge, is about to leave the Blues.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has today claimed on Twitter that Kante’s move to Saudi Arabia club Al Ittihad is now a ‘done deal’ and will be worth €100million per season.

Our immediate worry is how Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are going to fill a gigantic Kante-sized hole moving forward.

In our view, Kante’s imminent exit only ramps up the importance of winning the transfer race to sign Moises Caicedo.

There may not be another player for a very long time that can replicate peak Kante, who’s been the best in the business when it comes to breaking up play and popping up all over the pitch.

However, we think Caicedo could be the man to try step into the big shoes at Chelsea.

Chelsea target Caicedo, who’s only 21, has just finished a superb season for a Brighton side that finished sixth in the Premier League table.

He’s the type of all-action and high-energy midfielder that can inject new life into centre of the park for the Blues.

The Guardian recently named Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal as interested buyers this summer in £80million-rated Caicedo.

On top of that, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook claimed this week that Caicedo is “likely” to leave Brighton this summer to join Chelsea.

We would love to see Chelsea make a real statement now by quickly signing Caicedo and not mucking around to find Kante’s heir.

The Blues now have the flair and quality of central midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who’s shown a lot of positive signs during his first six months at the club. But we need a combative enforcer alongside him to do the hard yards and ugly work, which Caicedo makes look so easy.

Chelsea’s midfield has gone from a very strong point to an alarming concern in a short space of time, but splashing the cash for Caicedo is the perfect way to help with this rebuild in a vital area of the pitch.
