Chelsea are being heavily linked with a number of strikers this month, but time is running out to bring in a new face before the January window shuts on Friday.
According to the Telegraph, the Blues are not currently pursuing a move for Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic this month.
But the report details that they are aware he may be available to loan and could look at him if they are unsuccessful with their other targets.
Chelsea should look to make a U-turn on that stance and consider him a main target during the remainder of the window.
Jovic has had a frustrating half a season since his move to Madrid, scoring just one goal and supplying two assists in 20 games across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has struggled with his switch to Spain and been unable to live up to his potential, which is why Madrid are opening to a loan deal.
But he’s a centre-forward that scored 27 goals last season in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt and was dubbed by many as one of the best young players around in the summer.
Any player can struggle with a move to European heavyweights Madrid, so Chelsea should not be put off by that and instead look at what he is capable of.
Jovic would be excellent competition in attack for Tammy Abraham in Frank Lampard’s squad and a loan deal would be low risk, but the reward if they bring in a goalscorer that could light up Stamford Bridge.
The Serbia international is capable of scoring all types of goals with both feet and his head, but he just needs a confidence lift.
