Chelsea are reportedly confident they can wrap up a deal for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson in the January transfer window and he’s certainly no flash in the pan.
According to the Express, the Blues believe they are in a great position to sign the centre-forward for £30million in the New Year.
It is understood that Maurizio Sarri is keen on the England international and his team even come up against Bournemouth on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Chelsea’s interest in Wilson has been confirmed by the club’s assistant manager Gianfranco Zola ahead of the cup match.
“Certainly Callum Wilson is doing very well for his club and he is of interest, not just for us, but for many,” Zola said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Wilson doesn’t have the top level experience under his belt, but is no flash in the pan and could turn out to be a smart addition at Stamford Bridge if he arrives.
The speed machine has shown he can performer to great levels in the Premier League over the last couple of years and his England call-up recognised that.
He’s been involved in 18 games across all competitions so far this season, scoring nine goals and supplying six assists in return.
Wilson has chalked up goals against Manchester City and Manchester United this campaign, while his speed and work-rate could provide something different in attack.
Chelsea fans should at least be optimistic if the Bournemouth ace does end up making a January switch, as he’s a 26-year-old English talent beginning to reach his peak and a big-money move could well be the making of him.
