Chelsea teenager Ethan Ampadu should rise to fame under Frank Lampard
Chelsea prodigy Ethan Ampadu is one of several highly-rated young talents at Stamford Bridge and he’s one that should rise to fame during the upcoming season.
The 18-year-old should be targeting a breakthrough 2019/20 campaign, where he enjoys more minutes in the first-team.
He played five senior games during the last campaign under Maurizio Sarri, but now has Frank Lampard as the new manager at the helm to try impress.
Blues legend Lampard has stressed his desire to promote youth as the club’s head coach and he definitely has a talented bunch to select from.
Ampadu has the maturity of someone much older already in his game and should be hoping to play a more frequent role in the first-team squad.
The Wales international has eight senior caps for his nation and has thrived in a defensive midfield role on that stage.
But he’s also shown in Chelsea’s youth teams that he’s an accomplished centre-back, so his versatility should help Lampard over the course of a long season with plenty of games.
The teenager is extremely calm in possession and can pick a pass, while he’s tenacious in the tackle and looked completely fearless when drafted into bigger games.
Ampadu certainly looks good cover in the centre of the park for N’Golo Kante or Jorginho in a deeper midfield role, so it’s up to him to try prove himself during pre-season.
Lampard has seven pre-season fixtures to take a look at his squad and the Welshman needs to leave his mark, starting on Wednesday night against Bohemians if he gets the chance.
