Chelsea recorded an incredible 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday evening in the Premier League – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter hailed defender Cesar Azpilicueta for his individual display.
Maurizio Sarri’s side inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Manchester City and temporarily moved up to third in the table after earning three points.
The Blues had to hold firm defensively for most of the first-half, but managed to go in front on the stroke of half-time through a fantastic N’Golo Kante strike.
Chelsea grew in confidence in the second period to stand toe to toe with the reigning champions and eventually got a second courtesy of a David Luiz header from a corner.
Azpilicueta was one of the standout performers within the team and the right-back was completely immense.
Manchester City’s attacker Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling couldn’t get any change out of him, with the Spaniard standing firm defensively with countless tackles and interceptions.
There have been question marks over whether or not Azpilicueta can fit into Sarri’s team due to his lack of attacking traits, but he showed what a top defender he is against Manchester City.
