Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison has probably been the signing of the season so far, but Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has not been a bad purchase either.
In just 10 Premier League games, James Maddison has already scored three goals and provided five assists for his new side.
Cole Palmer cannot match those numbers yet, with the attacking midfielder scoring two goals and providing one assist in the top flight so far. However, according to OptaJoe, he is outperforming his countryman in one area: progressive passes.
While Maddison is averaging 6.4 per 90 minutes, Palmer is managing 8.3. Opta says that is more than any other Premier League player who has started at least four games this season.
For those who do not care about statistics, it will not mean much. However, for those who do, they will see it as further evidence of Palmer being a good signing for Chelsea.
For a team who are struggling to score and are probably low on confidence right now, the above shows that Palmer is still trying to play a positive game and get Mauricio Pochettino’s side in good positions on the pitch.
Cole Palmer can help Chelsea to beat James Maddison and Tottenham next week
Tottenham will go into next Monday’s derby against Chelsea as favourites, with Ange Postecoglou’s men flying right now.
However, the Blues have got draws against Liverpool and Arsenal and had it not been for a mistake versus the latter, they probably would have won that game.

Bearing that in mind, then, if Palmer turns up in the match with Spurs, as he has done in recent weeks, it is not impossible for Chelsea to claim all three points.
All eyes will be on the 21-year-old, who has been compared to Maddison by Joe Cole, and the Tottenham summer signing. Both players look like they could be potential match-winners on the day.
