Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is currently leading every player from Europe’s top five leagues in one area.
Conor Gallagher has been given a proper chance by Mauricio Pochettino this season and is not letting his manager down.
According to WhoScored, the 23-year-old has won possession in the attacking third more times than any other player in Europe’s top five divisions this season.
It shows just how hard Gallagher has been working in the current campaign and why he is a good fit for a manager like Pochettino, who likes his side to press.
Conor Gallagher is an engine
He is doing so much work in the middle for Chelsea this season in general.
Also per WhoScored, the Englishman is making 1.7 interceptions per game, which is the highest average in his squad. His average of 2.8 tackles per game is the second highest, with only Marc Cucurella currently making more (3.2).
His contract expires in 2025, but all of the above shows that he is a player worth keeping around.

If Gallagher does not put pen to paper on a new deal soon, Chelsea will be forced to sell the England international to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
We would be surprised if it came to that, though. Gallagher is now getting game time and Chelsea can see his worth and what he brings to the team. Signing a new contract works for all parties, unless Gallagher has doubts about his minutes going forward.
Once Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku return to full fitness, there could be some casualties in the team to accommodate the two or a change in shape that affects someone like Gallagher.
But with the form that he is in, Chelsea will be disappointed if they do go on to lose Gallagher, something that may not have actually bothered them at the start of the campaign.
