This current batch of Chelsea players are languishing mid-table in the Premier League right now, but you don’t have to rewind too far to remember domestic dominance at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have won five titles since its inception as the Premier League over 30 years ago.

Jose Mourinho was in the manager’s dugout for three of them, while Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte share one apiece.

So, which Chelsea player is statistically the most successful player of the Premier League era?

You can be forgiven if your mind immediately jumps towards club icons such as John Terry, Frank Lampard, Petr Cech, Didier Drogba, Eden Hazard or Ashley Cole.

However, Arjen Robben is actually above them all for a glittering spell in west London between 2004-07.

The Athletic has published a story today, assisted by Opta, that calculates of all the players in Premier League history to make over 50 appearances, which one has the best points per game rate.

Unsurprisingly, Manchester City players rank very highly, largely down to the dominance of Pep Guardiola’s current era.

However, Chelsea’s Robben has the most with a staggering 2.58 points per game in England’s top division.

Here below is the highest points per game records in the Premier League for players with 50+ appearances.

Arjen Robben – 2.58
Aymeric Laporte – 2.52
Leroy Sane – 2.41
Ruben Dias – 2.41
Phil Foden – 2.40
Bernardo Silva – 2.39
Oleksandr Zinchenko – 2.39
Ilkay Gundogan – 2.38
Naby Keita – 2.38
Ederson – 2.37
William Saliba – 2.36
Rodri – 2.36
Gabriel Jesus – 2.35
Julian Alvarez – 2.34
Paulo Ferreira – 2.33

Chelsea version of Arjen Robben is underrated

The statistic above should help shed light on just how good Robben was as a swashbuckling youngster in Chelsea colours.

From day one in English football, Robben got Blues supporters off their seats with his lightning speed, close dribbling and directness.

Yes, he was still pretty raw and only in the infancy of his career. In fact, we doubt many would’ve predicted him growing into the consistent machine he turned into for so long at Bayern Munich.

However, the flying Dutchman was so dangerous in the great Mourinho team between 2004-07, winning two league titles along the way.

He walked away from the Premier League with two titles, 15 goals, and 16 assists, plus the all-time best points per game ratio, all from just 67 appearances.
