Is reported target Schmeichel good enough for Chelsea?
Chelsea are reportedly considering Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel as a potential target this summer and Blues manager Maurizio Sarri should ramp up his interest.
According to Sky Sports, the Foxes’ shot-stopper is on a three-man shortlist for the Blues to replace Thibaut Courtois if he leaves.
Current Chelsea number one Courtois is close to signing for La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid for £35million and has agreed a five-year deal with them, according to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
However, Football London reports that Chelsea do not want to sell Courtois until they have a replacement.
Courtois only has one year remaining on his contract with the Blues and speeding up a move to find a new goalkeeper makes sense.
Schmeichel may not be the most popular option with Chelsea supporters, but he could be the perfect player to slot into Sarri’s XI.
The 31-year-old has proved himself to be an excellent shot-stopper in the Premier League during recent years and his distribution is top notch.
He was famously integral in Leicester’s sensational title success in the 2015/16 campaign, where he showed he can match any goalkeeper in the league.
Schmeichel is a vocal figure that reminded everyone of his talents at the World Cup with Denmark and has the mentality to make the jump up to one of the elite clubs in England.
Football London does report that Leicester might not be keen on losing Schmeichel after seeing Riyad Mahrez exit already this summer, but Chelsea should look to negotiate a deal having already signed a couple of players from the King Power Stadium in recent years.
