The winger has been a regular in the first-team squad this campaign under Maurizio Sarri, but hasn’t started a Premier League game yet in his career and most of his success has come in the Europa League.

His lack of exposure at the top level didn’t stop Gareth Southgate drafting him into the senior Englands squad for the first time over the internatonal break and he impressed during his first two caps.

“It might be that he (Hudson-Odoi) lifts the team in a different way and gives them a different dimension,” Hasselbaink told BBC Sport.

“Chelsea should bring more youngsters through. I would say Hudson-Odoi deserves a chance.”

Most England fans are now going to be rooting for Hudson-Odoi to get the chances he deserves at Stamford Bridge and surely Sarri can’t ignore him much longer.

The skilful attacker looks a goal threat whenever he plays and the Blues do potentially have a real weapon up their sleeve for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea have ground to make up to finish in the top four and are also in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Hudson-Odoi can definitely lift spirits within the team if he gets regular starts and it would give the Chelsea fanbase a major lift too.

His performances in an England shirt highlighted his quality and Chelsea need someone with his braveness in attack to help turn their mixed fortunes around.
