Who thought Mason Mount could get any better?

After skyrocketing to fame under Frank Lampard and then flourishing further under Thomas Tuchel, the bar seemed set for the Chelsea jewel.

However, the 22-year-old has smashed through that barrier once again, as he continues to enthrall and impress.

Mount the man of the moment

He is already the club’s top scorer this season with seven goals, just two short of his overall tally in 2020/21.

Up until November, the midfielder had only scored three times.

Yet, a run of four consecutive strikes in the Premier League shot him to the top of the rankings, whilst also making him the youngest ever Chelsea player to achieve such a feat.

Mount also has four assists to his name in the top division, bettered only by Reece James and Mateo Kovacic (both on five).

That tally of 11 direct contributions means the England international has the second-best goal involvement per 90 minutes (1.02) in the first division this term.

Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah is understandably out in front with 1.35 involvements per 90, having netted 15 times and provided nine assists in 18 appearances.

Emmanuel Dennis comes in third place (0.92), whilst fellow Stamford Bridge star James takes the fourth spot (0.81).

Ghoulish set of games for Chelsea

Following the 0-0 draw away to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Mount and his Chelsea colleague could do with rediscovering their scoring touch instantly.

After tonight’s Carabao Cup fixture against Brentford, Thomas Tuchel’s team have a pretty tough set of fixtures ahead of them.

A trip to Aston Villa on Boxing Day will be swiftly followed by a visit from Brighton & Hove Albion to South West London.

Then, it’s successive clashes with Liverpool and Manchester City, preceded by a London derby at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

We can feel the sweat dripping off your brows, Chelsea fans!
